Valley of Fire is Nevada’s red-rock state park northeast of Las Vegas, known for about 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone set in gray and tan limestone. The park roads make a beautiful ride on a road bike or a motorcycle. It’s run by the Nevada Division of State Parks, not the National Park Service, so the fees and passes are different from Lake Mead next door.
Fees
From the Nevada State Parks fee page:
| Entry | Nevada vehicles | Non-Nevada vehicles |
|---|---|---|
| Day use, per vehicle (including motorcycles) | $10 | $15 |
| Bike in, per bicycle | $2 | $2 |
| Camping, per vehicle per night | $20 | $25 |
| Utility hookup sites | +$10 | +$10 |
The bike-in fee is $2 per bike. Nevada State Parks sells its own passes; the federal America the Beautiful pass that works at Lake Mead and Red Rock is for federal lands, and this is a state park.
Hours and closures
The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, activity is limited to the campgrounds.
There are two closures to plan around right now:
- West Entrance, Monday to Thursday. Starting August 3, 2026, the West Entrance closes Monday through Thursday for construction of a new entrance lane and another fee booth. It stays open Friday through Sunday. On weekdays, come in through the East Entrance from State Route 169 or State Route 167. State Parks expects the construction to continue through the end of 2026.
- December 1–14, every year. The park closes to all visitors, including people on foot, for its annual maintenance closure. For 2026 that’s Tuesday, December 1 through Monday, December 14. It reopens December 15.
Heat
State Parks closes many of the park’s hiking trails every year from May 15 to September 30 because of frequent medical calls, rescues and deaths in the heat. The roads stay open, but the same sun beats on them. In summer, ride at sunrise and be out before midday. The heat guide has the Las Vegas monthly normals.
Water, shade and help
The park lists shaded picnic areas with restrooms at Atlatl Rock, Seven Sisters, the Cabins and near the Mouse’s Tank trailhead. The campgrounds have water and restrooms. The visitor center has exhibits on the park’s geology and history.

On a motorcycle
State Parks charges day use per vehicle and doesn’t list a separate motorcycle rate, so plan on $10 with Nevada plates and $15 without. Nevada’s helmet law applies on park roads; see Nevada motorcycle laws. State Parks says the park gets nearly a million visitors a year, so expect company on the road.
